ABOUT SOUTHERN ARKANSAS AREA

The Southern area of Arkansas is centrally located within the state proximate to Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 49. I-40 connects the area to Little Rock to the west and Memphis, Tennessee, to the east. Nearby U.S. Route 49 connects the area to Jonesboro, Arkansas, to the north and the Mississippi border to the southeast.

Southern Arkansas is a regional hub for manufacturing and specialty food production. Major employers in these industries that generate lodging demand for area hotels include Phillips Van Heusen Corp., Riviana Foods, and Specialty Rice. Also generating lodging demand in the region is the Little Rock Air Force Base, which employs 7,000.
